BAY SHORE - A suspicious package was found at a Bay Shore shopping mall Friday evening, prompting a partial evacuation.

Police say they received reports at around 7:15 p.m. of an unmanned suitcase at the South Shore Mall. It had apparently been sitting inside Panera Bread since earlier in the afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and evacuated the restaurant and a portion of JC Penney as a precaution.

Authorities say nothing dangerous was found inside. The stores have since been reopened.
