Police: Objects thrown from sedan smashed windshields, damaged dozens of vehicles
Police in Plumsted Township, Ocean County say more than a dozen vehicles were struck by objects that were thrown at them.
The incidents happened Thursday afternoon on Route 539.
According to police, the incidents happened on a stretch of road known for bad crashes.
Police, as well as victims, say they were driving South on Route 539 in the pinelands when a dark-colored sedan driving north threw stuff out the window, smashing into their windshields.
News 12 New Jersey is learning this may have been going on for at least a week in Manchester, Jackson and Freehold.
Police say the number of vehicles damaged is likely now in the dozens.
“Any driver unknown gets hit in the windshield they could veer off into oncoming traffic can cause serious fatal injuries on 539 so it's traveled very heavily a lot of accidents occur without these unknown distractions,” says Lt. Jason Reilly.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 609-758-7077 ext 203.
