? A Hempstead teenager was arraigned Thursday on charges he tried to light another teen on fire.
Investigators say 18-year-old Matthew Taylor threw gasoline on the 14-year-old victim from a Gatorade bottle and chased him with a lighter. When the victim ran into his grandmother?s apartment, police say Taylor threw more gas on the door and ignited a road flare. Luckily, the door didn?t catch fire.
Officials say the victim was taken to the hospital and treated for chemical burns. He has since been released.
Police say there was an ongoing dispute between Taylor and the victim. Both had been suspended from Hempstead High School for fighting with each other before meeting again for the incident in question. According to police, the 14-year-old felt Taylor was a snitch and rattled out his cousin.
Taylor was charged with first-degree attempted assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a dangerous weapon.
