A Hempstead man is accused of riding a motorcycle while high, fleeing police and then crashing, all with his 7-year-old nephew along for the ride.
Police say 30-year-old Donnell Waters, of Hempstead, admitted to smoking marijuana before the ride.
Officers say they spotted Waters and the boy riding on Westbury Boulevard without the proper helmets on. When police attempted to pull Waters over near the corner of Oak Street, they say he fled.
Waters allegedly reached speeds of 25 mph over the speed limit in an attempt to get away. He then crashed a few blocks away, at the corner of Commercial Avenue and Oak Street.
Police say Waters was carrying 12 small bags of what appears to be crack-cocaine, and a small bag of marijuana.
Waters allegedly admitted to police that he "smoked three blunts" earlier in the day, but he denied using crack.
According to court documents, Waters also said to police, "The weed will probably show up in my system because I smoke good quality weed... but I wasn't high when I had my nephew on the bike."
Officials say Waters and the child were not seriously injured in the crash.
Waters, who has a previous arrest for drug possession, was ordered held on $20,000 bail following a court appearance Monday.
