Police are searching Friday for the man they say tried to snatch a 1-year-old boy in Hempstead.

Police say the boy's mother was pushing him in a stroller on Fulton Avenue Tuesday evening when the man grabbed the child.

Police say the woman fought back and the suspect then threw the child onto the pavement.

The boy suffered scrapes on his face.

The suspect is described as black, between 30 and 35 years old with a thin build. He was wearing a brown winter jacket and a black Nike baseball cap with white lettering.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
