A Bergen County man has been accused of killing his mother and then keeping her body in a garage for several days.

The county prosecutor’s office says that Jesus Lopez, 30, killed his 56-year-old mother, Susana Lopez, in their Paramus home. Officials say that the mother was killed several days ago and that Jesus Lopez stashed her body in the home’s detached garage.

Police discovered Lopez’s body Tuesday evening after they were called to conduct a welfare check at the Spring Valley Road home.

Neighbors told News 12 New Jersey that Jesus Lopez had lived in the home with his mother since the early 1990s. Neighbors also said that police had often been called to the home to respond to domestic issues.

Jesus Lopez faces several charges, including murder and desecration of human remains.

Susana Lopez’s cause of death was not immediately released.
