Police make arrest in Bridgeport's 1st homicide of the year

Police have made an arrest in the Bridgeport attack that left one man dead and a woman injured.

Police have made an arrest in the Bridgeport attack that left one man dead and a woman injured.
The attack happened around 6:15 p.m. Monday inside 136 Bishop Ave. near Connecticut Avenue. Police say a man attacked the two people a knife inside the woman's residence.
They say 39-year-old Razzie Hancock was stabbed in the chest and collapsed outside of the home on a sidewalk. He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he later died, police say.
The woman suffered a minor cut to her eye, and refused medical treatment at the scene. She is expected to be OK and is cooperating with police on the investigation.
Police have arrested Kenyon Gay, 41, in connection to the stabbing. He is being charged with murder, possession of a dangerous weapon and second-degree assault. Gay's bond is set at $1,000,000.
A neighbor of the victim's family, Gail, says he used to come around his mother's house daily.
"He was very friendly, very open, very helpful to others," Gail said.
Police have not confirmed the relationship between Hancock and the woman.
They say the suspect had a current or previous romantic relationship with the woman and lived at the house.
"We're not sure if he had a key because he had previously resided there, whether or not the door was unlocked," said Capt. Brian Fitzgerald of the Bridgeport Police Department. "It does not appear at this point that entry was forced."
Investigators are still trying to figure out what led up to the incident.
The incident is the city's first homicide of 2019.
