Police: Man crashed motorcycle while drunk; wife dead
A woman who was riding on the back of her husband's motorcycle died when he crashed on Sunday, and police say the man was intoxicated.
Police say 26-year-old Michael Proctor was drunk while riding his motorcycle on Sunrise Highway at around 12:30 a.m.
They say he lost control at Exit 41 in West Islip and crashed.
His 26-year-old wife, Megan Proctor, was killed.
Michael Proctor was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
News 12 spoke with Megan Proctor's mother, who is overcome with grief. "For shame that you killed your wife because you drank and drove on a motorcycle and you took away my baby," said Maureen Lawless.
Lawless says her daughter was a chef. After completing culinary school, she worked for executive chef Richard League, who said Proctor had a promising future. "She could have really gone far," League said. "It's a great loss."
Police say Michael Proctor is being charged with driving while intoxicated. He remains hospitalized, and a date has not yet been set for his arraignment.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555.
