The NYPD is searching for an explanation for the death of a woman found in her Bronx apartment on Wednesday.
Lissette Gomez, 38, was found dead around 12 p.m. Police say they found Gomez unconscious and unresponsive inside of her apartment at 647 Cauldwell Ave. with trauma to her face and neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her older sister, Carmen Torrez, says that Gomez was caught up in a bad relationship. Torrez says she filed a police report on her sister’s behalf to report the abuse, adding that her sister refused to press charges when officers arrived at the apartment.
Neighbors say they have seen Gomez’s boyfriend hitting her inside the building for months. After reporting the daily abuse, neighbors say that their complaints fell went unheard.
Gomez’s body was found lying in her bed in her first floor apartment, but neighbors suspect that she was killed in a building next door and then brought back to the apartment.
The NYPD Crime Unit was on the scene today, collecting evidence from both buildings in question. Police have not confirmed any of the aforementioned abuse allegations, and the chief medical examiner’s office has not determined the cause of death for Gomez.
