State Parks Police are out in full force patrolling the grounds of the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center for Halloween weekend starting Wednesday.
George Gorman of the State Parks office says, as the holiday approaches, the abandoned mental hospital attracts thrill-seekers looking for a scare, but all they’ll find is trouble.

“We are concerned because the buildings aren't safe. There are dangerous staircases, literally ceilings are falling, walls could crumble and it's just an unsafe, toxic environment,” Gorman says.

From Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, State Parks Police and staff will increase patrols, both on foot and in cars. There will be roadway restrictions on Kings Park Boulevard and only vehicles with appropriate reason will be authorized to travel the roadway during this time.

State Parks officials say the increased patrols are also on the lookout for the culprits behind several swastikas left on the property. As News 12 has reported, swastikas and other hateful symbols were found painted on buildings at least three times this year.

“The New York Park Police are investigating with New York anti-bias unit who are assisting so that we can try to catch these individuals,” said Gorman.

State Parks officials say anyone caught trespassing or breaking into buildings will face fines and possible arrest.
