Police ID second set of remains found as missing Brentwood teen
Police have identified the second set of remains found in a wooded area of Brentwood.
Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini said this afternoon that a second set of skeletal remains found in the wooded area are that of missing 15-year-old Miguel Garcia-Moran, of Brentwood. Sini said it appeared the teen was a victim of assault, but wouldn't give more details.
News 12 spoke with Garcia-Moran's stepfather yesterday. He says his son vanished in February while walking to meet friends at Brentwood High School. He said he feared the teenager was trying to join a gang or may have been associating with them.
The skeletal remains of Oscar Acosta, 19, were found Friday. Acosta also died of an assault, according to Sini. He had been missing since May.
Two other teens, best friends Nisa Mickens and Kayla Cuevas, were beaten to death last Tuesday night. The reward is now up to $15,000 for information leading to an arrest in the killings of the two girls.
Sini said police were looking at potential gang-involvement in the deaths, but would not comment on whether it's believed all four were killed by members of the same gang. He did, however, vow to put a stop to the gang violence.
Sini said they are reviewing all missing persons cases in the Brentwood area as part of the investigation. Sini says they are done searching for more human remains in Brentwood for now, but that it's possible they'll search again.
Sini previously stated that a "violent gang member with ties to Brentwood" was in federal custody, but police did not comment on whether that gang member provided information on the location of the newly discovered bodies.
