Police: Hofstra student pistol-whipped in Uniondale home
A 21-year-old Hofstra student was pistol-whipped during a robbery at his home in Uniondale Wednesday afternoon, police say.
Police say the victim was targeted by three suspects who entered his home on Lawrence Street around 12:25 p.m.
Authorities say victim's roommate answered the door and allowed three black males into the home, not knowing the three men were there to harm the victim.
According to a police release, the male suspects entered the man's basement apartment wearing masks when a struggle ensued.
One of the suspects then struck the victim in the head with a handgun, leaving him with a laceration to the head and face, authorities say.
Authorities say one of the suspects took off with a box from the house. Investigators spent the afternoon collecting evidence, trying to figure out what was in the box and the motive for the robbery.
A spokesperson for Hofstra University says the school is cooperating with the police investigation.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
