Police say a Franklin Square woman has been arrested and is accused of running down her ex-boyfriend with her car and then taking off.
According to police, the incident happened Sunday just after midnight in Floral Park.
Police say Kristen Gerakaris, 33, had gone to the Franklin Square apartment she shared with her ex-boyfriend to get a cat. They say when he realized she was drunk and about to drive, he tried to stop her.
Detectives say Gerakaris was driving westbound on Jericho Turnpike, east of Emerson Avenue, when she hit the 38-year-old man.
The man was left with injuries to his head so severe that he had to be put in a medically induced coma, police say.
Gerakaris' lawyers say the alleged victim was drunk and sitting on the hood of the car before trouble ensued.
Gerakaris appeared in front of a judge earlier today to face charges of assault and leaving the scene of a physical injury accident. She pleaded not guilty, and her bail was set at $250,000.
Gerakaris' attorney confirmed her client works for a company called Printscan, which deals with fingerprinting. The website says it is run by law enforcement officers.
