Members of law enforcement voluntarily spent their Saturday learning more about gangs in their city.

The National Latino Peace Officers Association and East Coast Gang Investigators Association hosted a "Gang Identification and Trends" training session in Melrose.

The objective of the day is to teach members of law enforcement new tactics and skills to identify gang members.

Part of the training includes learning the history of some of New York's most violent gangs and becoming educating on gang signs and clothing. It also talked about some celebrities who promote gang culture.

The session comes just days before the start of the trial for the suspects charged in the fatal stabbing of Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz.

Organizers say they'll be hosting a similar event for the community so parents can know what to look out for to prevent their kids from being recruited to gangs.
