Police: Couple trashed gas station while yelling Muslim slurs
Police are looking for a couple who trashed a Cedarhurst gas station and allegedly yelled anti-Muslim slurs at the store clerk.
The incident occurred at the Shell Gas station on Rockaway Turnpike in Cedarhurst.
Police say two customers walked in and had words with the clerk before ransacking the place because it didn't have slushies.
The suspects then tried to make a purchase with their food stamp card, but the clerk told them the store wouldn't accept that as payment.
Police say the couple became irate, made anti-Muslim remarks and even threatened to kill the clerk.
The male suspect allegedly pushed a lotto machine off the counter and started throwing merchandise at the victim.
The owner of the gas station was too distaught to talk on camera, but told News 12 that he feels violated. He said he's been in this country for 31 years and he's never experienced hate like this before.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
