A Brick Township teen drowned over the weekend while swimming in a lagoon off the Barnegat Bay.
The teen was not identified, but News 12 New Jersey has learned that he attended Brick Township High School.
The incident happened on Saturday around 6 p.m. The homeowner tells News 12 that the boy was a guest at his daughter’s birthday party. The kids were playing in the water when the boy went under. The homeowner says that after five minutes the group realized he was missing.
Adults jumped into the lagoon and pulled the boy up from the bottom. The homeowner says the teen was placed in a boat where neighbors attempted to revive him through CPR before EMS took him away to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. He died Sunday.
Brick Township school officials say that they are providing counseling for any students who may be in need following the death.
