Local leaders are urging the city to take action after 14 people were hurt in a crash Sunday involving an MTA bus.
The crash between three cars and a B15 bus happened on the corner of Essex Street and New Lots Avenue in East New York.
It’s an intersection where traffic comes from three different directions yet there's no traffic light, just three stop signs.
Councilmember Charles Barron is now calling on the Department of Transportation to change this.
Barron says traffic lights were already approved for this street corner by the department, but they've yet to be installed. It’s a move he says could save lives.
Police say the crash happened around 8:15 p.m. when a Chevy Impala struck a van which then struck a Ford Escape. The Impala was then struck by an MTA bus.
Police say 14 people were hurt as a result, one of them with serious injuries.
The driver of the Impala, a 23-year-old woman, was arrested and charged with possession of a forged instrument and aggravated unlicensed operator.
Barron says he will continue to put pressure on the DOT to make sure this street corner is not forgotten and that a light goes up.
News 12 reached out to the DOT for a response.
