Police arrest 3 in East Tremont hostage situation
Police say an attempted robbery at the home of an East Tremont family quickly escalated into a hostage situation.
Authorities say they responded to 505 E. 184th St. at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday and were able to free two adults and a 2-year-old child. One suspect was arrested.
In another part of the apartment, however, police say two other suspects were holding a 60-year-old grandmother at gunpoint. SWAT and hostage-negotiation teams were then called in as other tenants of the building were evacuated.
Police say they negotiated for two hours, at which point the suspects decided to give up their guns and surrender. Police say the family members were physically unharmed.
