Police: 2nd swastika found at Cedarhurst LIRR station
Police say a swastika was found scrawled into a glass window at the Cedarhurst Long Island Rail Road Station.
The anti-Semitic symbol was discovered Monday morning, and marks the second at the station in two weeks. The first was found last Wednesday and quickly removed, according to a LIRR spokesperson.
In response to the symbols, Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky (D-Lido Beach) has called for security cameras to be installed not only in Cedarhurst, but other stations targeted by hate crimes as well.
"Those signs of intolerance and hatred will not be tolerated by me and our community," Kaminsky said. "We need to do everything we can to stamp it out."
Mikhil Kantanov, who owns a dry cleaners across from the station, says cameras would be an all-around improvement to public safety.
A LIRR spokesperson says both incidents are being investigated by MTA and Nassau County police. They say the LIRR will also conduct a security assessment to determine what measures will be taken to deter further incidents.
