Police: 21-year-old stabbed 5 times at Haffen Park
Police say a 21-year-old Bronx man is recovering after being stabbed several times at a park Sunday night.
They say Corey Miller, a lifeguard, was stabbed five times at Haffen Park, located at the corner of Ely and Hammersley avenues.
His mother, Christi-An Robinson, says her son was hanging out with some work friends when an argument ensued. Robinson claims her son was not involved in the dispute, but was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Robinson says her son tried to leave the park when he was knocked off of his bike and stabbed.
After being stabbed, Robinson says her son staggered down the street, bleeding, and tried to ask a passerby for help but was turned away. She says that's when he ran off to a nearby nursing home for help.
When Robinson arrived at Jacobi Medical Center, she found out her son was in surgery. He's now recovering but is struggling to eat and breathe, with one of the stab wounds right under his heart.
The stabbing took place in the same park where 14-year-old Kemar Brooks was shot and killed in July  2012 after playing tennis. That slaying remains unsolved.
Robinson says Miller is preparing to undergo a second operation Wednesday to see if any internal organs were punctured. He does currently have police officers in his hospital room because there were warrants out for his arrest for jumping turnstiles in the past.
Miller has prior arrests, but Robinson says that he's a good kid.
Police maintain that the motive for the stabbing was some kind of dispute.
