Two teenagers were arrested in connection with a sexual assault at the It Takes A Village Academy in East Flatbush, police say.
Santosh Bonito, 17, and a 15-year-old boy were charged with forcible touching in connection with the sex assault of a younger student. Both suspects are also students at the high school. Police have not released the name of the second suspect due to his age. Bonito was arrested April 12 and the other boy was arrested April 16.
In November, investigators say the suspects performed unwanted sexual acts on a 14-year-old inside a school bathroom.
The principal at the time, Marina Vinitskaya, suspended the boys but failed to report the incident to police, forcing the victim's mother to contact authorities herself. Vinitskaya has since been removed from her role at the school.
"We worked in close collaboration with the NYPD to address these deeply troubling allegations and are conducting a complete investigation into the school's handling of this incident," the Department of Education said in a statement. "The safety and well-being of students is our top priority, and the superintendent and his staff will continue to provide the school with ongoing support to address concerns from students and families."
