Two people were seriously injured in what is being deemed a boat explosion off the North Shore.
Police say a boat was traveling from Sunken Meadow State Park to Stony Brook Marina Saturday night. A 54-year-old East Setauket resident was operating the vessel.
That’s when police say the boat stalled, restarted, and shortly after, there was an explosion.
The driver’s wife and another passenger were rushed to a hospital with serious injuries, police say. Another passenger was treated for minor injuries, while the driver and one passenger were not injured.
Why the explosion occurred is not known, but officials say it does not seem suspicious at the time.
