Police: 1 dead in Hampton Bays fire that engulfed home

Southampton police say they received a call for the fire on Mildred Place just before 10 a.m. Wednesday. The report said black smoke could be seen coming from the home.

A man has died in a fire at a Hampton Bays home, police say.
Southampton police say they received a call for the fire on Mildred Place just before 10 a.m. Wednesday. The report said black smoke could be seen coming from the home.
When officers arrived on the scene, a fire had completely engulfed the home, police say.
Multiple fire departments and ambulance units from the area responded to the scene.
Police say a man was pulled from the home and rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as 71-year-old Frank Holecek. Police say he was the only person inside the residence.
The fire has since been brought under control, and the Suffolk Arson Squad is investigating.
