Police are investigating a fatal single-car crash that occurred this morning on the Sunken Meadow State Parkway.

The incident happened south of Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown around 2:30 a.m.

Police say an investigation revealed the collision occurred when a Honda Civic left the roadway and struck several trees in the center median.

A passenger, Maria Garcia, 37, of Brentwood, was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries. The operator of the vehicle suffered no apparent injuries as a result of the collision.
