Officials with the Long Island Rail Road say two work equipment trains made contact in New Cassel today. The incident happened on the main line at 11:03 a.m.
Shortly after 11 a.m., one of three single-car work trains, which are used to realign tracks and rock bedding, was traveling west on its way to a job site, when the it made contact with the middle train. The accident occurred about a half-mile west of the Hicksville station, and just feet away from the Nassau County Public Safety Center on Prospect Avenue in New Cassel. (June 4,2013)
All service is suspended between Mineola and Hicksville.
The two train operators were taken to the hospital following the accident.
The incident happened on the main line at 11:03 a.m.
Assistant Chief Fire Marshal John Priest says five people were hurt in the crash.
