A pet store gave a special surprise to a family whose parrot died after being accidentally taken.
BTJ's Jungle in West Islip gave a pet parrot to the Furoogh family for free. About two weeks ago, the family brought their first parrot, Sunny, to the store to be groomed.

Another customer accidentally walked out of the store with the bird. Police say the man kept the box with the parrot in it in his car during the day, and when he opened it up later the bird had died.

The owners of BTJ's Jungle say this bird is a Quaker parrot, which is the same type of parrot that Sunny was. They say they found and adopted the baby bird just for the Furoogh's to take home.

Sunny had been intended to be an emotional support animal for Furoogh's mother. The family says they're happy to take this new bird home for the holidays.

Police say the incident was non-criminal and no one is facing any charged. The family says they don't have a name for their new bird yet, but they're confident he'll quickly become part of the family.
