SELDEN - A plowed road created a flood of trouble for Selden homeowners.

Water flooded two March Court homes Wednesday morning after a neighbor says a payloader moving snow knocked over a fire hydrant, then took off.

Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Kathy Walsh, who's running for highway superintendent, says GPS can determine who hit the hydrant if it was a town truck. If it was an outside contractor, Walsh says the operator will be harder to track down.

One homeowner says he cleared snow away from the old hydrant twice, but each time, he says plows covered it back up. Neighbors believe the hydrant was covered with snow when a payload operator struck it.

The homeowners say their private insurance will not cover the damage.
