Police are stepping up security efforts on Long Island following Sunday's deadly shooting at a Jewish community center and nearby Jewish retirement home in Kansas.

Three people were killed when the suspect, who has been identified as a 73-year-old alleged white supremacist, opened fire on Sunday. The shootings came on the day before the start of Passover.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the shootings.

The national Anti-Defamation League says it issued a warning to Jewish community centers about the possibility of violent attacks around Passover, which this year falls near Adolf Hitler's birthday on April 20.

Police in Nassau and Suffolk are stepping up patrols at places of worship as a precaution.
