All PATH train service connecting New Jersey and Manhattan has resumed following an earlier suspension due to an air compressor failure.
The disruption started at about 4 p.m. Thursday, just as the evening rush hour was getting underway.
New Jersey Transit cross-honored PATH tickets – but the disruption still caused delays and overcrowding for the evening commute between New Jersey and New York. This even included long lines on the ferries traversing the Hudson River.
Those who make the New Jersey/New York commute tell News 12 New Jersey that they weren’t surprised by the issues.
“The other morning it was weather-related signal problems. How we aren’t prepared for that, I don’t know,” says Jersey City resident Nadine Rada.
PATH officials did not say what caused the air compressor to fail.
The issue comes just as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the agency that runs the PATH system, announced that fare and toll increases are coming in the near future to help pay for improvements on all Port Authority assets.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
