LaFontaine paid $3.2 million for the house, according to Newsday.
The former Islander is downsizing from a $6.2 million home in Lloyd Harbor that had its own skating rink.
LaFontaine played for the Islanders from 1983 to 1991 before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres.
