Parents and students enter very different new school year

As many as 20 Long Island school districts reopened Wednesday, and parents said goodbye to their children heading to school for the first time since March. Cayuga Elementary School in Lake Grove was among the reopening schools.

As many as 20 Long Island school districts reopened Wednesday, and parents said goodbye to their children heading to school for the first time since March. Cayuga Elementary School in Lake Grove was among the reopening schools.
Lori Storc said it was a tough day.
"I was feeling anxious just to see how they would adjust. They're so resilient. They just want to come back and be with their friends," said Storc.
Cooper Dassau, 8, couldn't wait to go back and said "basically everything" was different this year.
Students ate lunch in their classrooms, where they were spread apart from each other.
During recess, they kids kept their masks on and couldn't see friends from other classrooms.
Kids at Cayuga Elementary, and their principal, all told News 12 it was a success.
