Hundreds of people waited for their chance to speak on Friday during day two of the public hearings held at City Hall to discuss Mayor Michael Bloomberg?s proposal to extend term limits.
The purpose of the hearings was to allow the public a chance to voice its opinions. But, some say the hearings morphed into a heated debate between members of the council?s committee.
Simcha Felder, the chairman of the council?s Governmental Operations Committee, laid down rules that no one could speak out of turn and clapping was not permitted.
Despite the strict regulations, Bronx Borough President Adolpho Carrion, Jr. and Brooklyn Councilman Charles Barron slung insults back and forth.
The proposal could be voted on by Oct 23.
