Officials say a man's body was found following a house fire Tuesday in Mattituck.

Southold Police Chief Steve Grattan said that three people who were home at the time of the fire safely exited the home.

At least six departments responded to the scene on Middle Road.

The fire began around 9:45 a.m. and first responders remained on scene into the evening. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The identity of the man and his cause of death will be determined during an autopsy done by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The American Red Cross says 11 people from the home, including four children, have been registered for emergency assistance.
