Officials: 7 treated for smoke inhalation in Valley Stream deli fire
Fire officials say seven people were treated for smoke inhalation after a deli went up in flames in Valley Stream Sunday morning.
The fire occurred around 6 a.m. at the Crown Deli on Merrick Road.
When officers responded, they say they heard a male victim calling for help from the rear of the building.  Police used a forcible-entry tool to enter the locked door, entered the kitchen area and removed the 33-year-old male victim out of the building. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for smoke inhalation, and is currently listed in stable condition.
Six officers were also evaluated and treated for smoke inhalation and released from the hospital.
Fire officials say the blaze is now under control.
