NYPD shooting suspects appear in court
The two men charged in connection with the shooting of two NYPD officers in the Bronx appeared before a judge Monday.
Jason Polanco, the man accused of pulling the trigger, has yet to enter a plea for the charges against him. They include several counts of attempted murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.
Polanco's case has now been sent to a grand jury, but the 23-year-old does not plan to testify. He's due back in court on March 3.
The second suspect, Joshua Kemp, has pleaded not guilty to robbery charges. His case has also gone to a grand jury, which will decide whether or not to indict him on March 10.
Kemp's lawyer, Michael Raskin, says he plans to challenge the idea that the 28-year-old had any involvement in the armed deli holdup that led to the shooting. Raskin also distanced his client from Polanco, saying in court that the two are not well acquainted and may have no relationship at all.
Meanwhile, recovery continues for the wounded cops. Officer Aliro Pellerano is resting at his Westchester home, while Officer Andrew Dossi was recently transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan.
