NYPD precinct in Bronx racks up high civilian complaints in city
The Bronx is home to the NYPD precinct with the second most civilian complaints against cops, according to a new report.
The Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) says police misconduct reports are up from the same time last year and disciplinary measures are down. In the Bronx, residents levied the most complaints against the 44th Precinct on E. 169th Street. Other borough precincts with high complaints include the 40th, 46th, 47th and 52nd. Those precincts serve areas such as Port Morris, Mott Haven, Morris Heights, Mount Eden, Woodlawn and Wakefield.
The CCRB says what is most alarming is the growing number of cases in which investigators cannot identify accused officers, despite conducting a full probe. Those cases are up 11 percent, according to the board. The CCRB also found 76 percent of offending officers are reprimanded by ?instruction,? which involves retraining. The NYPD counters officers receive harsher discipline if they are found guilty of more serious, violent offenses.
