NYPD officer from LI dragged by stolen car in Brooklyn

An NYPD officer from Long Island is in critical condition after a driver he was questioning in Brooklyn took off and began dragging him more than two city blocks in an allegedly stolen vehicle.

According to the NYPD, the incident happened around midnight in East Flatbush, when police responded to loud fireworks at a party.

Officer Dalsh Veve, a nine-year veteran of the force from North Baldwin, was speaking with several people who were inside a Honda Civic. That vehicle had been reported stolen from Valley Stream, police say.

The car suddenly took off, striking and dragging Veve for more than two blocks before he fell into the street.

Police say the driver kept going until the car crashed. It was found abandoned several blocks away. Investigators believe Officer Veve was able to fire off two rounds before the car stopped.

A 15-year-old passenger later showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound and was listed in stable condition. Police believe the teen may have been struck when Officer Veve fired.

Officer Veve is hospitalized in critical condition at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn.

At least two people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident, News 12 is told.
