NYCHA buildings going green as part of PlaNYC 2030
Former President Bill Clinton and Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Friday that the New York City Housing Authority is going green.
The Clinton Foundation and the NYCHA are teaming up to make Bronx buildings better for the environment. The NYCHA has gotten approval from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to use energy-saving measures to create cleaner, healthier air for Bronx residents.
As part of the plan, the NYCHA will install computerized heating systems, new steam water and heating devices and florescent lamps in apartment common areas.
The Bronx buildings going green will fill the public housing component of Bloomberg?s PlaNYC 2030. The plan is the mayor?s initiative to make the whole city green. Part of PlaNYC 2030 includes the controversial proposal to charge drivers going into Manhattan during rush hour.
