Thousands of students around the city took part in demonstrations to raise awareness for climate change Friday.
Students at P.S. 139 joined thousands across the country and around the world for the global climate strike.
About 500 students from Edward R. Murrow High School also joined a rally. Before classes started, many of the elementary students rallied in front of the school alongside parents.
They tell News 12 a lot of preparation went into the demonstration. Over the weekend they held an event to make their signs and to learn more about the issue.
The rally comes three days ahead of the United Nations climate summit.
Students at Manhattan College joined the thousands of students protesting the climate strike in Manhattan on Friday. They made signs voicing their opinion on why they felt the need to walk.
Adults also joined in the efforts by unveiling a mural that will serve as a reminder that climate change is real. The mural shows mother earth crying and a heart on earth, which the artist explains symbolizes the love we need for our planet.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says more than 60,000 people and counting came out to support the movement.
The students gathered at Foley Square for a rally before marching down to Battery Park.
Jaamal Bowman, who is running for Congress, as a well as current Rep. Eliot Engel walked along Bronx students protesting the cause.
Any New York City Public Schools students who decided to take part in today's demonstration in Manhattan will receive an excused absence from school as long as they have their parents' permission.
