As more people get back to work and commuting into the city, ferry service is ramping back up after cutting back due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

New York City ferry services ran on a limited schedule and were reserved for essential workers throughout much of the pandemic, but now they’ve added more weekend service, as well as morning and evening commutes times. 

The Soundview ferry terminal has adopted new safety measures for riders. "We do sanitize the boats, we try to do it every single hour as we drop people off,” says senior deckhand Tasya Steer-Harrison. 

All riders are required to wear a mask on the boat, and social distancing is also required when boarding and riding on the boat. 

"It can put you in exactly the mindset that you want to be in when you want to walk into work,” says Franny Civitano, at NYC Economic Development Corporation. 

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is advising that ferry will be operating on a weekend schedule July 3.

They say to also prepare for longer than usual wait times.
