NYC Council committee passes term-limit bill
(AP) - Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposal to change term-limits law so that he can run again has cleared a New York City Council committee and will now go before the full council for a vote.
The governmental operations committee voted 6 to 0 on the bill, sending it to the 51-member body for a vote. The measure changes the law by giving officeholders the option of a third, consecutive, four-year term.
Despite a last-minute court challenge seeking to block the council from voting on the term-limits bill, the full council was scheduled to take up the measure at its Thursday afternoon meeting.Requestdenied to block term-limits law change voteOfficialsspar at day 2 of term-limit hearingsCitycouncil holds first term-limits hearingBloombergsays he'll seek 3rd term
