NY company offers medical marijuana home delivery
One of the five licensed companies that grow, manufacture and disperse medical marijuana in New York is now making home deliveries.
The service is being offered by Vireo Health, and is considered a "life changer" for the Knoll family in Holtsville.
The family's 5-year-old son, Zak, uses Cannabidiol, or CBD oil, to control his epileptic seizures. The family says they had to drive to Queens in order to get the product.
"If you have a child that has a lot of medical issues, it's tough to get out to do anything, especially for a few hours," says Aaron Knoll. "Taking that off the plate just makes my life easier."
The family says the results of the CBD oil were immediate and drastic. The seizures seem to have stopped.
"Just to see it go down to the point where it's not detectable is amazing. He can be a kid again," says Aaron Knoll.
Drug addiction counselors worry that home delivery isn't safe or secure enough.
"Our concern has always been is that there wouldn't be enough protocols and oversight in place and that this medical marijuana could fall into the wrong hands," says Steve Chassman, of the Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence.
Vireo Health is making the deliveries in company-owned vehicles with GPS tracking devices and other safety features. News 12's request to do a ride-along was turned down for security reasons.
