The long-awaited anchor tenant for the Nassau Hub has been unveiled: Northwell Health has agreed to build a research and development center on the vacant land at Nassau Coliseum.
BSE Global and RXR presented their joint vision for the development of the Nassau Hub Tuesday afternoon to the Nassau County Legislature and a standing-room-only audience.
Developer Scott Rechler says the plan provides the county with what it is currently lacking.
At the center of the proposal is a 225,000-square-foot Northwell Health innovation center focused on laboratory space and research. The new facility would then be complemented by entertainment, retail and 500 units of multifamily housing.
Tuesday's presentation was just the first step in what figures to be a multiyear process, but Nassau Executive Laura Curran calls it a good start.
"It will bring good jobs, and it's the perfect anchor employer for a live-work-play environment that we are seeking to create at the Hub," she says.
BSE Global and RXR are essentially just asking the Nassau Legislature to kick off the process right now. If the Legislature provides a green light to move forward, developers say a final proposal would be presented in two to three years.
