The Marion G. Vedder Elementary School in North Babylon will be going full remote through the rest of the week after an overnight fire early Wednesday morning.
In video obtained by News 12, smoke can be seen pouring out of the boiler room around 1 a.m.
Suffolk fire officials say six departments responded to the school on Deer Park Avenue. No one was hurt.
A message on the school's website now says the smoke damage is more extensive than expected. It says ceiling tiles may need replacement, walls need scrubbing, and items like books and bulletin boards may need to be discarded.
The message goes on to say the school will now be going full remote through this Friday because of the need for deep cleaning.
