A nonprofit group has announced it will take over the mortgage payments for the homes of Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, the NYPD officers killed last week in Brooklyn.
A spokesman for the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which honors and supports service members, made the announcement from their Staten Island headquarters Friday afternoon.
The group says it will cost roughly $800,000 to fully pay off both homes, and they hope to have the funds raised by New Year's.
The organization was founded after the Sept. 11 attacks, and is named after the trek Siller made from the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel into Manhattan that day.
Although too distraught to speak at the press conference, the Liu family wanted to thank everyone who has shown them support.
Before making the announcement, the organization had already raised $70,000, with $20,000 donated by former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
