Jared Greenberg hails from Mahwah, New Jersey, went to school on Long Island and now has risen through the ranks to broadcast NBA games at a national level.
Greenberg was announced as part of NBA on TNT's Tuesday night lineup, and made his debut Tuesday during the Celtics-Heat matchup. He's come a long way from humble beginnings in high school, where he decided to take up a TV production class at Ramapo College, despite it being only for seniors.
"I can say with 100 percent certainty that if I didn't start doing radio in my freshman year of high school I would not have gotten into Hofstra," Greenberg said to Newsday. "I probably wouldn't have gone to college, and there is no chance I would be a successful human being."
With an endorsement from friend and co-worker Ian Eagle, Greenberg decided to attend Hofstra University, where he called hundreds of games for WRHU, the school's radio station.
He quickly jumped at the opportunity to make an impact at the radio station, driving from Mahwah to Hempstead to take WRHU's required training program before his freshman year even began.
Greenberg then helped launched MSG Varsity in 2009. He moved over to Turner in 2012, where he has been a host and reporter with NBATV.
In his new gig on TNT, he will work alongside Eagle and Stan Van Gundy, with help from Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O'Neal, Candace Parker and Steve Nash back in studio.
