NICE approves MetroCard fare hikes

The fares are being increased to $2.50. (February 14, 2013)

WOODBURY - Some Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) riders will soon have to pay a little more to hop on the bus.

NICE approved fare hikes for rides using the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) MetroCard and for those who ride into Queens to $2.50, up from $2.25. Riders who pay cash however will not see their fares rise.

NICE CEO Michael Setzer says that without the fare raises, riders would still pay the $2.50, but the bus service would lose out on the 25 cents, which would instead go to the MTA. Instead, NICE will use the added revenue to increase service on some routes, like to and from Jamaica
