There has been a surge in local deportation arrests, according to Newsday.
Between January and April, Newsday reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents rounded up 687 immigrants on Long Island, in New York City and several upstate counties.
That's an increase of about 31 percent.
Officials say the increase matches rising arrests nationally due to President Donald Trump's more stringent immigration enforcement policies.
