THE BRONX - The Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-0 in their first home game of the season today, launching the hunt for World Series title 28.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 630th home run and tied Ken Griffey Jr. for fifth place on the career list in the Bombers' 110th home opener.

The starting pitcher for the Yankees was Hiroki Kuroda.

During the opening ceremony, the American flag was unfurled by West Point cadets and there was a Navy F-18 flyover.

The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Jorge Posada.
