DIX HILLS - Officials conducted a dramatic rescue in Dix Hills after a woman was trapped under an elevator for 40 minutes.

The incident happened at a home on Candlewood Road North yesterday.

Investigators say Carolyn Buechler got pinned underneath the elevator car in the basement of her home after her husband accidentally lowered it on top of her.

Buechler says she was lying on her back and watched the elevator come down and stop within inches of her head.

It took 45 firefighters and rescue crews to lift the elevator to get her out.

The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for a bruised arm.
